Congress Asked to Stop 50% Cut to Indirect Practice Expenses

December 22, 2025 12:15 PM | Anonymous

The Wisconsin Academy of Ophthalmology Joined the American Academy of Ophthalmology and 54 other ophthalmologic states and societies to ask Congressional leaders to stop a portion of the recently finalized final payment rule that revised the method for practices to allocate indirect practice expenses.  The change cut the portion of facility practice expenses (PE) costs that could be allocated to non-facility based services by 50%.  These expenses include items such rent, utilities and administrative staff – and the proposed cut will only further decrease payment for physician services.  These changes are effective January 1, 2026 unless changed by Congress.

The full letter to Congress is attached for your review.
