    This session explores key components of well-being and introduces validated tools for assessing them in clinical and educational settings.  Participants will examine the principles and potential benefits of Enhanced Stress Resilience Training while reviewing current evidence on mindfulness-based interventions.  Together, these insights will support practical strategies for enhancing clinician well-being and improving patient-care.

    Objectives:

    1. Analyze components of well-being and apply validated measurement tools in clinical or educational contexts.
    2. Evaluate the principles of Enhanced Stress Resilience Training and determine its potential benefits for learners or healthcare professionals.
    3. Assess current evidence on mindfulness-based interventions and integrate findings into strategies for improving clinician well-being and patient care.

    About our presenter: 

    Dr Heather A. Stiff is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the University of Iowa. She was born and raised in Columbus, OH and received her undergraduate degree in both Chemistry and Dance from Hope College in Holland, MI. She then returned to Columbus for her medical school training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She went on to complete her internship, residency, and fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She joined the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2021 and her practice includes pediatric strabismus, ROP, infantile cataracts, and adult strabismus. She has a passion for education, and since joining has created an Acting Internship Pediatric ophthalmology rotation for medical students and became the residency Associate Program Director in 2024. She is also one of two councilors for the MCW chapter of AOA. Additionally she has a passion for wellness, and received a well-being grant to introduce Enhanced Stress Resilience Training to the department of ophthalmology.
