Dr. Dennis Han recognized with the American Academy of Ophthalmology Life Achievement Honor Award

MCW News - Dennis P. Han, MD, Jack A. and Elaine D. Professor of Ophthalmology, has earned the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Life Achievement Honor Award for his career-long commitment to “advancing the profession and positively impacting patients’ eye health,” according to the AAO. Dr. Han is the vitreoretinal section chief in the department of ophthalmology & visual sciences and the director of clinical imaging services at the Froedtert & MCW Eye Institute.
Dr. Han joined the MCW faculty in 1988, a year after giving his first presentation at an AAO annual meeting. Since then, he has authored nine more presentations, seven of which represented original scientific work leading to publication. He was an instructor for AAO courses on numerous retinal topics between 1988 and 2009 and acted as a faculty member and contributor during the annual AAO Retinal Subspecialty Day programming for 20 consecutive years. While publishing more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and 25 book chapters throughout his career, Dr. Han served as associate editor and editorial board member of the Archives of Ophthalmology/JAMA Ophthalmology and today sits on its advisory committee. He also has served on the an AAO development committee for preferred practice patterns for continuing education programs and has taught courses on lean practices for the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives since 2014.
“Being recognized with the Life Achievement Honor Award is an extraordinary accomplishment that represents many, many years of selfless contributions to the academy’s mission,” says Dale K. Heuer, MD, chair of the department of ophthalmology & visual sciences. “Dr. Han’s honor is a wonderful reflection on him and by extension MCW and the Eye Institute.”
