Announcing Academy's 2017 Outstanding Advocate and Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award Recipients
On behalf of the Awards Committee, we would like to to acknowledge and recognize all those who submitted nominees for the Academy's 2017 Outstanding Advocate Award and/or Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award including state, subspecialty and specialized interest societies. It is our sincere pleasure to inform you that the Academy's Board of Trustees has approved the following award recipients who will be formally recognized at AAO 2017, the Academy's annual meeting in New Orleans.
2017 Outstanding Advocate Award
Gregory P. Kwasny, MD, OCS
nominated by the Wisconsin Academy of Ophthalmology
The Outstanding Advocate Award, developed as a result of a Council Advisory Recommendation (CAR), was created to recognize Academy members who have made a long-standing commitment to participate in advocacy-related efforts at the state and/or federal levels.
2017 Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award

Stephen T. Petty, MD
nominated by the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons
The Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award was designed to recognize Academy members who have demonstrated a pattern of humanitarian service in the United States or abroad.
